The Hairy Henry's Story Book
The idea for a story book was born in spring 2016, when everyone at Hairy Henry's was stuck inside the barn to wait for the never-ending rain to stop. Tucked away comfortably on the straw bales, I discovered with one young visitor how much the donkeys, Nell and Ee-ore, enjoyed being entertained by our story telling - and how much we enjoyed telling the stories! So, that's how the first Hairy Henry story was written.
The huge educational and emotional benefits of story telling are obvious - it is fun, it is a way to express thoughts and feelings and communicate them to others, it makes people feel empowered and more confident, and proud of their creativity and imagination.
So, over the year, I encouraged our young visitors to think up more stories. And here we are - with a selection of 5 short stories, all written by our young visitors, to be enjoyed by all!
Apart from covering the printing costs, we hope that we will have some proceeds from the book sale to use to improve Hairy Henry's - in particular our Nature and Sensory Trail around the farm. This is a trail where visitors can enjoy and learn about the natural environment and animals on the farm, and which promotes sensory and physical development, especially in young children with special needs.
The book is a small A5 paperback booklet and is priced at €5 per copy. It is available directly from us or for sale in the following shops:
